Why the BC Liberals should be very unhappy right now

My latest piece for Examiner.com ( alright, so my break there was shorter than I thought it would be ) talks about some interesting poll results that have the BC Liberals tied for second place among the province's top three parties. Granted, it's a long time until our next election, but it's fun to speculate.

"If this trend holds, the BC NDP will win the next election, and this could be good for everybody."

That's a far stretch. The NDP are usually good for the public service unions and environmentalists, but nobody else.

The 1990's NDP were a disaster, and under Glenn Clark's former hit man,Adrian Dix,they'll probably be even worse for the average taxpayer.

The NDP are fundamentally opposed to the oil and gas exploration in this Province and will shut down or delay endlessly every pipeline proposed.

No, an NDP majority government is the worst case scenario.

dmorris: sometimes the cure is worse than the disease.

The disease is "progressive" conservatism which is not conservatism at all. And to top it off is the corruption and crony capitalism.

The cure is the NDP. People will be begging for a true conservative voice after the NDP runs the joint again. Just like the 90s.

Agree,Don,the cure is often worse than the disease, but I disagree the cure is an NDP majority government.

I absolutely want to see the Liberals punished for their deceit and corruption, but I don't want to end up bankrupt and on welfare.

If we at least see a three-way split House, with the Dippers holding a minority, say NDP-40 seats,Conservatives 30,Liberals 16, the government would be unable to foist on us all the green legislature the NDP's far Left wing will demand.

Dix,with a majority, will make Dalton McGuinty look like Ronald Reagan, and the green industries will thrive on TAXPAYERS money subsidies. Imagine corruption on a scale to make BC Rail look like a model train setup in someone's rec room.

Green energy "solutions" have been fraught with corruption all over the world. Pick any Country, do some research on the corruption, whether it's Europe, Australia, the U.S.,or Canada, there is skulduggery afoot when the hogs fight for the subsidies at the public trough.

And B.C.,under an NDP government would be no better, probably worse,as every windmill and solar panel would have to be produced with Union labour.

The B.C. NDP are NOT "nice-guy" soft socialists like Tommy Douglas was, they are the leftovers of the communist Party and the enviro-fascists,and they want to punish capitalists for what they see as "corporate greed" and "pillaging the earth".

The NDP sent a clear message to BC'ers with their choice of keynote speaker at their recent convention,Van Jones.

We,some of us,learned our lesson in the 1990's about government under the NDP,some of us,unfortunately, have very short memories.

That's a good point. For the most part, I'm cynical about the leadership of either the Liberals or the NDP: someone is going to be unhappy no matter who gets elected.

The cynical part of me agrees.

Heh. I wasn't in BC in the Nineties. That might factor in :)

The BC Liberals are losing supporters to the BC Conservatives,... and both ...need to start explaining why they deserve a voting base that they're already fighting over.

The NDP cannot be trusted to govern with anything other than a heavy hand, if past iterations are anything to go by - and they are.

It's good to see a Conservative resurgence, as the Liberals have been drifting ever further left, both to grow support, and to govern fairly, in light of voter notice last election.

Canada is becoming more conservative, not less. The ideal would be a minority Conservative BC government, with Liberals and NDP as Loyal Opposition.
Like in the big leagues.

Dix has publicly promised to hold a public inquiry into the corrupt sale of BC Rail when elected. That alone is enough to win my vote, as the results of said inquiry will be the utter destruction of the BC Libs, along with charges, trials, and jail sentences for the major players, especially Campbell and Clark.

Yeah. Even if the Conservatives don't see some substantial gains in the next election ( and I don't see why they shouldn't, given current trends ), they can at least keep the Liberals a little more on the straight and narrow.

Now that would be interesting, if it could be pulled off.
