Since Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo assumed the presidency of the country in 2001, more than 800 Filipinos murdered in politically-motivated, extra-judicial, targeted killings. Since the 4th quarter of July 2005, one person has been killed every two days.Just to introduce a little bit of comparative governance....
The victims of these brazen acts of violence were all unarmed citizens: lawyers, judges, journalists, medical practitioners, members of cause- oriented groups, priests, church- workers, human rights advocates, laborers and farmers.
It is widely believed—and the United Nations support this belief—that state security forces are complicit in these crimes.

Could be worse

The Angry left, liberal media have done a disservice to those who have suffered at the hands of dictators and despots.
Using the term thugs and suggesting our PM is undemocratic is just another reason why Canadians have tuned out the angry voices.
The PM has given the delayed the house re opening by 28 sitting days.
Based on the panic and sky is falling media you think Stalin has taken control and the Army will be deployed shortly.
Shame on you! How dare you compare necessary housekeeping with ending democracy to host a major international event?
I would wager a large sum of money that Prime Minister Palpatine's next move will be to dissolve Parliament for eternity, put an end to pesky elections, and rule with an iron fist for a generation!
It will happen because I said so. Kady O'maley can back me up on this.
Marx-a-Million - well, when you put it like that...
CanadianSense - one of the worst things that our political class has done is undervalue actual, real politics and democracy. Just look at the Opposition - in a few short months they managed to make the word 'scandal' lose two thirds of its value for a while to come.
With all due respect Walker. If you have to compare Prime Minister Harper to leaders like Arroyo who kill their own citizens to put him in a good light isn't that in itself saying something?
it is always a good idea not to let the government know you are armed. only and unarmed populace can be murdered in such a way. if you can'y fight beack you die.
Anon 1 - Hmm...touche. I seem to have shown a rather dark part of my partisan side here, haven't I?
